The department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2009. Since its commencement, the primary objective of the department has been to impart quality education and training at the under graduate level in various areas of civil engineering with broad emphasis on design aspects and Practical Implementation. Several academic and co-curricular activities are organized every year to bring up the department as a Centre of Excellence. Apart from teaching, the department is engaged in a wide spectrum of activities covering industrial consultancy, continuing education and faculty, staff and student development. The faculties are specialized in diverse fields and there is commendable research ambience in the Department.
To become a leading centre of excellence and to achieve unique identity in Civil Engineering education which will be highly recognized at national and international levels as well as contributing to the technology for the sustainable development of the societyCivil Engineering Department was started with intake strength of 72 students and it has been maintained till. The department is equipped with advanced and sophisticated equipments like Total Station, 1000KN Universal Testing Machine, 2000KN compression testing machine, triaxial and consolidation testing units. Computer lab is having licensed softwares like Autocad, Staad Pro and Primavera which the students can use for analysis, design & drawing of structures and for construction management.
The department offers electives in advanced subjects like Finite Element Methods, Repair and Rehabilitation of Structure, Ground Improvement Techniques and Cost Effective Building Techniques.
The department initiated Civil Engineering student’s chapter “Association of Civil Engineering” (ACE) in the year 2012 with a view to provide platform for Civil Engineering students to organize various academic programs, technical talks, seminars, workshops, conferences, additional computer courses etc. Experts and professionals from the industry, research centers and the academic circles are regularly invited to share their experience and to impart knowledge to the civil engineering students.
The Department focuses on the overall development of the students through innovative teaching and learning. One of the main objectives of the Department is to produce qualified, competent and employable civil engineering graduates to cater the needs of industry and society by imparting requisite knowledge and training in different areas of Civil Engineering and emerging technologies. A graduate from this discipline can become an entrepreneur or serve Government/ Private agency/ R&D organization to serve the nation.
The mission of the Department of Civil Engineering is to create knowledge resources and to educate and train youths in the latest technologies in Civil Engineering, to imbibe in them human values, self confidence and independent thinking in tackling diverse problems in the field of Civil Engineering so that they can serve the country and the human society at large.
